~Reflection Pt.1~

The final result of the short video was quite a success. The quality and editing came out very well. The video show a good amount of editing which shows the skill that was used in its making. In the making of this presentation it has though new skills in filming and editing and has also left me with some useful information through our research on the topic of fake news.

I enjoyed the over all process of making this video, from planning the skit out to the filming and even the editing. The over all experience was great. The team work was great we made sure to communicate as much as possible to keep each other up to date with our work and see if we can help each other out. We were able to stay with our schedule and had completed the project.

The only problem we had come across was the video not being able to submit so we were delayed in the submission but we were able to submit it in the end after a few changes.

~Reflection Pt.2~

After reviewing everyone's video on the topic they covered for methodology it allowed us to see what we lacked in our own presentation but also showed us where we did good. At the end of this the majority of the groups had not fully completed the task that was given and we were one of them. We realised that we were more focused on the end product of how the video would turn out that we had missed some key notes in order to properly complete the project.

The class that we have taken to review each others project, I think, allowed us all to reflect on the work we have done and has showed us ways we could improve and add to our own video. This also showed us that we are more than capable in fully completing the task if we have put our full focus on the main objective of the project.

Since this is our last project for semester one I hope to use the lessons I have learnt in the production of this project and hoping that the mistakes made are not repeated in future project.

~Product Pt.3~

We have come towards the end of the third week. With all of the planning and filming completed the only thing left to do is the editing. This is where some difficulty comes in, only one of the members in our group has experience with editing videos so me and the other member are only on the level of basic editing of videos.

The tool we used fro editing was Premiere Pro. We compiled all the clips we shot and organised them to make the short skit. In the process of making this short film we made sure to clean up each clip so that they corresponded with each other to create the story. We cropped out the moments where mistakes have taken place to ensure the video looked a lot more professional. Audio wasn't loud enough in some of the scenes so we increased the volume to ensure we provided clear and understandable audio. The screen recording we had taken were used for the scenes where the messages were being sent out so that it was visible to the audience what we were typing out and also to put some editing skills learnt in to practice. We cropped the screen recordings at the corner of each clip but also making sure that we are not being covered. The clips of the students taken in the canteen and library were used to input text notification to create the effect of news spreading.

~Product Pt.2~

Week two is where we start the filming for the project. We will be putting our plan and ideas for the skit into action. All the scenes will take place on college grounds. The camera did not have a muffler to cancel out the wind so we decided to record the first scene in the males changing room where it was isolated and quiet.

The blog, containing the fake news, was created using blogger. This was used for the first scene to start off where and how the fake news spread. The next scene take place in the canteen, this is where the news starts to spread. This is done by screen recording our phones while messaging others on Snapchat. Three recording of the same scene was acted out by all three members of the group but in different locations. The next scene is a footage of the canteen as well as the library. We used these footage so that we maybe able to edit and add text messages popping up above the peoples head to convey the spreading of the fake news. The final scene will take place in the lockers again. The scene will result in one of the members to notify the other member that the news the was on the blog was not true.

~Product Pt.1~

In order to make a video for fake news we had to come up with fake news. Instead of taking an idea of the internet we decide to have our own story. We based our news on Shaun, the news did not have to be in any way extreme we only needed to demonstrate what fake news is and how it effects the media. Our fake news is on Shaun who is pretending to have a Donegal/American accent and is actually from Finglas and had a heavy Dublin accent.

In the first week we planned out how we were going present this video. We came up with the idea of making a skit that shows how fake news spreads and effects the media. We did some individual research about fake news and how fake news is created in order to help us with our task. We gathered the information we have collected and agreed on ways we could spread the fake news. Blogger will allow us to make a blog that lays the foundation and source of the fake news, then we will use the the app Snapchat to spread the fake news the blog has provide.

We plan on filming the video on college ground so that it is easier for us to gather and film after our lectures and labs. One of our group member is kind enough to let us use his camera for the filming.

~Process~

So for our third and final mission for Semester 1 is on Methodology and the topic we have chosen for this project is Digital Journalism. So what is methodology, it says in the dictionary that it is " a system of methods used in a particular area of study or activity".

Our goal for this project is to create a video to identify a topic, investigate that topic, and tell a story he have agreed upon using different platforms for digital media. We knew that this project was going to take a lot of effort and work to complete properly. Finding partners was quite difficult straight away but thank fully I was able to find a group soon. We immediately started on the project. We are hoping that at the end of this project we are able to present a video that covers what the mission is asking us to do and to also get better at video editing using Premier Pro. Also hoping that the video is at the length of approximately five minutes.                               
                                                                                   
The tools we are going to use to tell the story are the apps Blogger and Snapchat and for editing we will be using Premier Pro. The information will be extracted through our research online. Other equipment we are planning to use is a camera for filming and our phones and of course a laptop/desktop for editing.

The section of digital journalism we are going to focus on is fake news. Fake news is seen everywhere on digital media and one of the most popular. We plan to come up with fake news that can be spread and show how fake new travels around to people as fast as proper news.

Each group is given Three weeks to complete this project. In the three weeks we are given we will split each process of the making in to three parts, the first week we will plan what the video will be about and how we are going to make it happen, the second week we will begin filming and we will use the ideas we had planned out in week one, week three will consist of the editing for the final product.

Second Mission - Selfie Culture

~Reflection~

The result of our presentation went according to what we had planned. I hope that the information that we have presented was in some way useful to the audience. We insured to face the audience rather than the screen to allow us to have full interaction with the audience.

In the span of seven days while working on this project i had gained more information about the selfie culture. I'm not saying that its the most useful information to have but its good to know the background of the selfie culture and how it also effect society and in some cases our mental health.
Knowing that selfies, especially the ones taken by celebrities, have a huge impact on people, but realising that millions of people adapt and follow trend brought out by big celebrities. This goes to show that selfies taken by a public figure can impact the way we dress, look, act, and maybe even control our emotions or mood. From this project I have learnt that selfies can allow people to connect through images of themselves by finding common interests, but it can also be bad for you if it is abused. Selfies are great, it can capture moments in life that convey stories and emotion, but losing yourself in the addiction of selfies from the attention you get in the media can be harmful in some cases.

The selfie culture was a great topic to study and present especially when the audience are college student that are in the age where they are the most active in that kind of culture. Topic that we covered allowed us to have the resources to have information that the audience can relate to and also learn form.

I'm happy with how well the presentation went as it was exactly as we hoped it be also I enjoyed the research that i went through. Though it wasn't all on the presentation, I was able to acquire information that could be added to my personal knowledge ( Just fill up some space in this empty skull I've got hahahahaha :') ).

Personally I think we could have done better if maybe we had a little more time (when I mean little I mean two or three days more time). I guess co-operation was good but i think a little more of communication would have done the trick to have a solid teamwork but working with the group was no trouble in fact it was great. Also maybe also we could have gone over the presentation a little bit more so that we had the PowerPoint fully covered.

Second Mission - Selfie Culture

Tomorrow is the day we will be presenting our presentation. We have successfully completed our project and quite satisfied with the results of the finish product.

We used three of the seven days we were give to research and gather useful information that we can use for the presentation. The topics I had take were, selfie in modern day and what negotiating and curating our digital identity meant. There was nothing too difficult when researching for resources on those two topics. Quickly reading through different articles and blogs allowed to collect information and choose which would relate and at the same time be useful to the audience.

Group communication and co-operation was crucial with the time we were given but it was no problem for us. We were able to check up on each other to ensure that each of us were up to date and had gathered enough information on the fifth day, which is when we started making our presentation. Taking the idea of not having to much text was also put to use in this PowerPoint, this unsure that we have full interaction with the audience while presenting our information. The presentation was kept short and simple but also including colours and images to attract the audiences attention for the presentation.

The presentation did not take too long to put together so we taken today to read over and revise the information we plan to present. We plan to use the point he have as only a guide and we will use the information we have learned to expand to those points to allow us to provide verbal information to allow the audience to absorb more information.

We hope to that the presentation goes as planned. I hope that the information is enough to keep the audience interested while getting new information from it.

Second Mission - Selfie Culture

Our second mission is on the topic of selfies. We are given the task to study and present the information around Selfies. this will be a week long task so time is very limited. communication will be very crucial specially with the time given to complete it. We will be splitting each task between the three of us allowing us to all contribute and learn about the history and culture of selfies.

We are hoping to complete the tasks provided for us in the on week we are given. In this one week our goal is to research as much information as we can on the topic of selfies. These topics will include the background and some history behind the culture and beginning of selfies, the influence selfies toward others depending on their status, and an understanding of the selfie Culture.

We aim to present a presentation better than our first, but with a shorter amount of time on our hand we must co-operate and work extra hard in order to complete the presentation. We hope to gather enough information on our topics on the selfie culture to create a presentation that will provide more than enough useful information that we can present to the audience.

The internet will be our main place to gather resources for the presentation. We will be looking in to articles, blogs, and  posts that revolve around the selfie and its culture.

The selfie culture is difficult enough of a topic to cover due to it being created by the community and social media. So we must rely on information from well known writers and bloggers to have solid information that can be useful later on in the making of the presentation.

By picking this project i think it will provide us with a lot of new information about something we are a part of. Selfies has become very popular and every selfie has its own story to tell, from the way the persons facial expression is capture and how the background ties in with your emotions and how the way you dress coveys how you also feel.

But overall I just hope that we not only finish in time but also deliver an informative presentation to the audience.

First Mission - Art of the Animated GIF

~Reflection Pt.2~

I think all three of us have learned a lot more than we think we would from the mission "Art of the Animated GIF". Getting know and learn the different types of GIFs available to us allowed us to understand the meaning and processes it took to make the GIF. Not only did this project teach us the Background of GIF but also allowed us to actually learn to create a few of our own.

whilst working on this project i have come to realise how very little knowledge i know about GIF even though i use it on a regular basis. What i discovered about our mission is that we all enjoyed the making of the GIFs and the Presentation and the whole experience of group work around the mission we have tackled. This probably because we all use GIFs. Team work through out this project was great, we made sure each of us were up to date and had our ideas in production and helped each other with ideas. With communication and team work we were able to complete the project with no difficulty or drawbacks.

The presentation was very successful, safe to say. Every thing that we had planned played out smoothly. we were able to focus our knowledge to our audience as we made sure all the information was coming from our mouths rather than the PowerPoint. The GIFs were exactly as we hoped it to be.

Knowing that we have put in a good amount of time and effort into creating the GIF's and constructing the presentation, we feel a lot more comfortable presenting our work as group.


The experience I got with the make of this project was quite enjoyable. I enjoyed working with my group and how we all helped each other with ideas. I found it great how we all had come up with great ideas and how we were able to turn them into something we are able to present to others.

First Mission - Art of the Animated GIF

~Reflection Pt.1~

I have to say we were all happy of the results of our overall work and presentation. The presentation went accordingly as planned. I think the idea of having small point for each of the slide allowed us to provide the audience with knowledge we had learned and also allowed us to see our selves how much information we had taken in through research. Overall, I think that our mission was a success. We were all satisfied with the work we put in to the mission but also we think that there will be plenty more room for improvements and ideas in our future missions.
